Thanks for sharing your experience with the Fan Controller software. I have one of the early Mac Book Pros that came out in early 2006. I was starting to have system lock ups when using EyeTV software. At first I thought it was the application but then I started experiencing the same problem w/o EyeTV running.

It has been a week since I installed the fan controller software and I have not had any system lock ups. Prior to this, I would experience this problem several times a time so I am confident that this did the trick.

I think Apple should introduce a SW update for these early MBP to fix this issue.

Out of the Apple products I’ve owned, this is the first one to go kapoot on me. And it’s not Apple hardware per se, as it’s an ATI GPU that is known to fail nowadays around this time, and was included in computers other than Macs.

And I really haven’t contacted Apple regarding a remedy for the situation. This blog post has been my main vent. The computer is four years old. By any modern computer standards, it’s rather dated.

So, regardless of the fact that it’s Apple, and not HP, or Dell, or Asus, or Toshiba, or any other brand, the result is the same. I have a new computer. Brand doesn’t matter in this case.

It’s a common misperception among Apple customers that Apple cares about them. They don’t. Except insomuch as they can get you to buy a new piece of equipment.

Andrew, I’m aware of Google Redesigned plugin for Firefox, but I use Safari for 90% of my browsing. I did use FF 3.5 before Safari 4, but I’ve since switched.

30 minutes later since I typed the above, I’ve set up Google Reader in Mozilla’s Prism and enabled the Google Redesigned plugin. Now I have gReader as its own app and looking much sharper. Thanks for the kind reminder.

There’s a Firefox plugin called ‘Google Redesigned’ that cleans up the interface for Gmail, GReader, and GCal. I’ve found it helps.

Shane, I too really like gReader to quickly scan news sources. I may not have fully understood your complaint, but there is an easier way to move a feed to a folder or even to create a new folder. Simply select the feed, at the top of the feed click on “Feed settings…” drop down and you can select the folder where you want to put the feed or create a new folder for that feed.

Kim, I don't see why you aren't able to view the photos. Not all of the categories have photos in them yet, but the ones with thumbnail images do.
